On October 6, 2026, the Hinsdale Multicultural Arts & Education Association (HMAE) continued its Eastern Culture Series at Wellness House with an interactive Chinese dumpling-making workshop, bringing community members together through food, cultural learning, and shared experiences.

The program introduced participants to the history and cultural significance of Chinese dumplings, a traditional food often associated with family gatherings, celebrations, and togetherness.

Following the presentation and demonstration, participants had the opportunity to prepare fillings, roll dough, and practice folding dumplings. Working side by side, they exchanged conversations, learned new skills, and experienced how food traditions can create meaningful connections across cultures and generations.

The evening also featured a harmonica performance and a lively martial arts demonstration by HMAE Youth, adding music, movement, and intergenerational participation to the cultural experience.

Volunteers from the HMAE Senior Program played an important role in supporting the workshop, helping participants throughout the hands-on activities and contributing to the welcoming atmosphere.

The Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA) also joined the gathering with an informational display, sharing community resources and connecting with participants.

HMAE extends its sincere appreciation to Wellness House for hosting the program, to MAHA for its participation, and to the dedicated volunteers and young participants who helped make the evening possible.

Through its Eastern Culture Series, HMAE seeks to make cultural traditions accessible through education, creativity, and active participation. Programs like this demonstrate that cultural heritage is not only something to celebrate, but also something to learn, practice, share, and pass on.
