HMAE’s High School Lunar New Year Celebration was recently featured on the front page of the local village newspaper. This marks the second time an HMAE Lunar New Year event has received front-page recognition, following last year’s inaugural celebration held at the local library. The coverage reflects not only the success of the event but also the community’s strong recognition of HMAE’s ongoing efforts in promoting cultural exchange and heritage preservation.
Notably, many of the students featured in the newspaper coverage came from neighboring communities rather than residing in Hinsdale. They reached out to HMAE requesting assistance in collecting copies of the newspaper issue from the day of the event as keepsakes. Their enthusiasm and appreciation deeply inspired all volunteers involved and filled the organizing team with pride and excitement.
Further strengthening community support, following remarks delivered by District 86 Board President Ms. Cat Greespon, the District 86 official Facebook page published a detailed feature highlighting the Lunar New Year celebration at Central High School with photos and event highlights. This recognition represents an important endorsement of HMAE’s three-event Lunar New Year celebration series.
The high school celebration had a meaningful and positive impact on the Central High School community, including the East Asia Club, the Social Science Department, the Red Dragon Band, the Choir, the Theater Crew, and many participating students. The event fostered cultural understanding, encouraged student engagement, and strengthened cross-cultural appreciation within the school community.
The strong recognition and support from the community provide powerful motivation for HMAE to continue building and sustaining this new tradition. Moving forward, HMAE remains committed to supporting cultural heritage education and learning opportunities for the community—especially for young people—while fostering meaningful cultural exchange and engagement.
